Resource Reviews, edited by Marti Smith, are published once a month.

Dear Readers,

It’s finally happened! We’ve moved Missions Catalyst to a new delivery system. Constant Contact will help us keep track of subscribers, produce more professional-looking content, and manage this ministry with greater efficiency. As we adjust to our new capabilities, please let us know what you think.

Missions Catalyst was long a part of Caleb Project, an organization which (sadly) is no more. However, many of its former services and staff are still in business. For inspiring and educational missions resources to equip believers of all ages, check out the newly resurrected ‘Caleb Resources’ store. You cannot place orders directly through the web at this time, but browse there for what you need and call a customer service representative at 1.877.662.1040 (toll-free) or 303.459.5405.

We’re working on a new web site for the ‘about Missions Catalyst’ pages as well as our archives, but throughout the process you should be able to find us if you search for Missions Catalyst. Please keep sending us your ideas and submissions, including items for our missions events calendar, which we had neglected for several months. We want to see these resources be as helpful to you as possible!

Much thanks for your prayers, support, and patience in these days of transition.

Warmly,

Marti Smith, Managing Editor

A WEB SITE, A BLOG, AND TWO EZINES – Business as Mission Resources

Do you see the power of business to transform the nations? Connect with others and learn about this movement through the Youth with a Mission ‘Business as Mission’ Resource Center. In April they launched a bi-monthly business-as-mission ezine to inspire and network those who share this passion; sign up on their site. (It’s apparently not just for guys-with-ties, either. The June edition includes an article about an Aussie skateboarding ministry/company founded to influence the youth skate culture and, as God opens the door, transform an industry.)

See also the Business as Mission Network’s blogspot, here, and while you are there sign up for their bi-weekly business-as-missions ezine too. That one now claims more than 3000 subscribers.

We love to see the barriers between ‘missions’ and ‘everything else’ broken down!

BOOK – A Worldview Approach to Ministry among Muslim Women

A Worldview Approach to Ministry among Muslim Women, edited by Cynthia A. Strong and Meg Page. 2007, 368 pages, paperback. Price: $15.39 from William Carey Library (Tel: 1.800.MISSION in the U.S.)

Using original field research from eight different language and culture groups, A Worldview Approach to Ministry Among Muslim Women explores a variety of ministries among Muslim women and provides tools to analyze their effectiveness. With contributions from scholars, field workers and agency administrators, readers are encouraged in a holistic Muslim ministry perspective through in-depth studies in Muslim beliefs, anthropological tools, worldview analyses, case studies and explorations in strategic issues and discipleship (description from the WCL web site).

William Carey Library also carries From Fear to Faith: Muslim and Christian Women, by Mary Ann Cate and Karol Downey, published in 2002 and now on sale for $10.00, and Ministry to Muslim Women: Longing to Call Them Sisters, edited by Fran Love and Jeleta Eckheart and published in 2000, available for $13.85.

We also like Miriam Adeney’s Daughters of Islam: Building Bridges with Muslim Women, published in 2002 by InterVarsity Press. Get it from WorldChristian.

BOOK – Window on the World Is Now in Paperback

Window on the World, by Daphne Spraggett with Jill Johnstone. 2007, 220 pages, paperback. Price: $16.99 from Authentic Books (Tel. 1.866.732.6657 in the U.S.)

Long available as a hardback (since 2001) this great resource about the nations came out in paperback a few months ago. Consider it a children’s version of the classic resource, Operation World. Great visuals, stories, maps, facts, and prayer requests are designed for children ages 9-12 and a great addition to family devotions. It’s nice to have the lighter paperback, but you can still get the heavy-duty hardback volume many places, including WorldChristian, which offers it for just $14.99.

Not out yet, but coming very soon from the same publisher is another scrumptious-looking resource – WindowKids‘ Recipes Of The 10/40 Window: A Cookbook for Kids – Traditional Recipes from Afghanistan to Yemen. It will cost $12.99. Authentic is taking orders now. If you are in a rush you can get copies of a previous edition and some other good resources for children directly from WindowKids.

EVENT – Weekend of Prayer for Children at Risk

June 2-3 is the World Weekend of Prayer for Children at Risk. Join Christians around the world in praying for God’s hope and healing to transform life for the desperately poor, the orphaned, the exploited, and the neglected. Why not take time to pray for children during your church service, or with your family or small group? Viva Network offers a free, downloadable guide to praying for children at risk and a calendar of events hosted by churches and ministries around the globe this weekend. So, you’ll have to act fast.

EVENT – October 2007: The Journey Deepens

“The Journey Deepens” is a weekend retreat to help prospective cross-cultural workers explore what it is like to be a missionary, discover a good fit, and connect with mission agencies. These retreats are for college students, young professionals in their 20s and 30s, adults in their 40s and 50s, and high-school seniors willing to explore becoming a missionary.

Each retreat of 50 participants and 10 experienced missionaries from multiple agencies is highly relational with extended worship, small group discussions, personal reflection, and much prayer. Discussions include guidance, finances, singles/families, etc.

The first 2007 retreat will be October 5-7 in Pasadena, California on the campus of the U.S. Center for World Mission. The other 2007 retreat will be October 26-28 in Atlanta, Georgia. Presented by MissionsFocus International and co-sponsored by Finishers, MissionNext, Perspectives, and the U.S. Center for World Mission. For more information visit The Journey Deepens.
