Raising Personal Support – When Do We See God Move

From: Caleb Project

In this downloadable article, a Caleb Project staff member describes how God used his support-raising season to teach him two important lessons: that God is God (and may have more in mind for those raising support than just bringing in the money) and that he moves when we step out in obedience. Practically speaking, this means we have to step back from other commitments in order to do our part in raising support. Download the whole article here. [Note: link removed July 2009]

EDITOR’S NOTE: Raising support can be a daunting task for many. Among the helpful and encouraging resources available is Funding Your Ministry Whether You’re Gifted Or Not!: An In-depth, Biblical Guide for Successfully Raising Personal Support by Scott Morton, available here.

FILMS: End of the Spear, and Beyond the Gates of Splendor

From: Bob Creson, President, Wycliffe Bible Translators USA

“They’re not ready for heaven, and we are.” That was the testimony of the five young men who willingly gave their lives so the Waodani people [sometimes known as the Waorani or Auca] of Ecuador could have the opportunity to hear the good news of the gospel. Today the Waodani and the families of those five men are advocates for and living examples of the life-changing power of God’s Word.

Beyond the Gates of Splendor is the feature-length documentary about the Waodani transformation. Produced by Bearing Fruit Communications, this DVD is now available in many retail stores across the U.S.

End of the Spear is the dramatic, major motion picture version of the story due for release in 1,200 theaters across America on January 20, 2006. Produced by Every Tribe Entertainment and rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence, the movie emphasizes the power of God’s Word to transform lives.

Visit the Dare to Make Contact web site to find out how you can be an advocate for the movie.

EDITOR’S NOTE: End of the Spear is based on the book of the same title by Steve Saint (son of Nate Saint), just published in December 2005 by Tyndale House. Additional resources about this story, including the older books, Dayuma: Life Under the Spears by Ethel Emily Wallis (about the ministry of Rachel Saint and the translation of the Bible into the Waodani heart language) and Elisabeth’s Elliot’s Through Gates of Splendor, are available from Wycliffe and other places.

EVENT: 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting for 2006

From: Ryan Shaw, SVM2 – December 6, 2005

The year 2006 is the 200th anniversary of the 1806 “Haystack” prayer movement which God used to bring a lightning strike from heaven, launching the North American missionary movement. Throughout 2006 SVM2 (Student Volunteer Movement 2) is partnering with various organizations and ministries to see the legacy of the “Haystack” movement told and a new challenge and burden given to today’s student generation in the U.S. and Canada. It is critical that we go deeper in all-out intercession for today’s emerging generation to be clothed with a spirit of consecrated prayer and gripped with God’s passionate love for the lost who are least-reached throughout the earth. Can lightning strike again?

Dates of fast: January 10-31, 2006

21 Days of Prayer and Fasting Guide: A guide to help give more foundation on the discipline of fasting and to provide daily scriptures and prayer points for you to follow will be available for free download after January 3 on the SVM2 web site.
