Sri Lanka\u2019s Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa hinted that he is prepared to introduce an anti-conversion bill to \u201csave this country\u201d from falling into deep difficulties.<\/p>\n
On March 2, Rajapaksa, a leading member of the majority Sinhala Buddhist community and brother of the country\u2019s president, spoke shortly before the announcement of a general election, due to take place on April 25 but now postponed because of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n
Addressing the annual convention of the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress, Rajapaksa outlined the \u201cthreats facing the Sinhala Buddhist nation.\u201d He identified the conversion of \u201ctraditional Buddhist families to other religions\u201d as a major \u201cthreat.\u201d<\/p>\n
