{"id":8799,"date":"2019-09-18T08:58:55","date_gmt":"2019-09-18T12:58:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/missionscatalyst.net\/?p=8799"},"modified":"2019-09-18T08:58:55","modified_gmt":"2019-09-18T12:58:55","slug":"papua-new-guinea-first-iski-wedding-of-believers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/missionscatalyst.net\/?p=8799","title":{"rendered":"PAPUA NEW GUINEA: First Iski Wedding of Believers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source: Ethnos360, September 16, 2019<\/p>\n<p>In the Iski people group of Papua New Guinea, \u201cmarriage is an ill-defined term,\u201d said missionary Aur\u00e9lie Tousch. \u201cPeople go out together, move in together [and] break up, a bit like in the West.\u202fThere is no wedding day but a \u2018trial period\u2019 that often ends in separation even after the birth of a child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the gospel was presented and Iski believers began growing, the missionaries taught biblical principles of marriage. Though counter-cultural, the Iski believers accepted the teachings and have been waiting since 2017 for an opportunity to demonstrate their obedience.<\/p>\n<p>One of these Iski believers is Bitris, a young, single lady. Bitris\u2019 friends encouraged her to marry, but she chose to wait because there were few single, believing Iski men.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in a different language group far across Papua New Guinea, Moombi, a young Mibu elder, began looking for a wife. For years, he waited to marry because he \u201cfelt rather strongly that God wanted him to focus on ministry and leave these things in his hands,\u201d said missionary Chris Walker.
