{"id":7449,"date":"2017-10-04T07:04:42","date_gmt":"2017-10-04T11:04:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/missionscatalyst.net\/?p=7449"},"modified":"2017-10-03T20:14:07","modified_gmt":"2017-10-04T00:14:07","slug":"bahrain-arab-state-declares-religious-tolerance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/missionscatalyst.net\/?p=7449","title":{"rendered":"BAHRAIN: Arab State Declares Religious Tolerance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source: World Watch Monitor, September 21, 2017<\/p>\n<p>The King of Bahrain has sought to promote his country as a global champion of religious tolerance, with a declaration that advocates freedom of religion for all and rejects extremism.<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wiesenthal.com\/atf\/cf\/%7B54d385e6-f1b9-4e9f-8e94-890c3e6dd277%7D\/BAHRAIN_DECLARATION.PDF\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.wiesenthal.com\/atf\/cf\/%7B54d385e6-f1b9-4e9f-8e94-890c3e6dd277%7D\/BAHRAIN_DECLARATION.PDF\">Bahrain Declaration<\/a>, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa \u201cunequivocally reject[s] compelled observance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The one-page pledge, which was co-sponsored by the Jewish US-based Simon Wiesenthal Center, also calls for the condemnation of terrorism, of stirring up extremism, of suicide bombing, and of sexual slavery.<\/p>\n<p>Rabbi Abraham Cooper, the Center\u2019s associate dean and social action head, told World Watch Monitor that Muslim, Christian, and Jewish scholars had looked over the king\u2019s text before it was published.
