After 28 years, [a translation] team in Kurdistan is finished, and the Kurds have \u201can accurate, contemporary translation\u201d of the entire Bible.<\/p>\n
Hans Combrink of Biblica<\/a> said it wasn\u2019t an easy road. \u201cThere have been starts and stops, there have been wars, there have been disruptions of all kinds, but the team persevered and they finally saw the work brought to completion.\u201d<\/p>\n Kurdistan is \u201ca sensitive part of the world that\u2019s difficult to work in,\u201d explained Combrink. Since the region is made up of pieces of several countries, he thinks this new translation [in the Sorani dialect of Kurdish] will help the Kurds feel a sense of identity and camaraderie.<\/p>\n \u201cBible translation is obviously tied up in language and culture\u2014you can\u2019t separate one from the other,\u201d said Combrink. \u201cIt forms people\u2019s sense of identity.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cRelationships are key in any kind of work that we do, especially in sensitive parts of the world,\u201d said Combrink.
