These aren\u2019t the only dangers threatening Iran\u2019s next generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an unexpected move, Iranian leaders recently acknowledged the exploitation of children. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/heart4iran.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Heart4Iran<\/a>\u2019s Jennifer Shamoon says the data is vastly underestimated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIranian officials reported about 4,600 children were living in poverty and collecting garbage on the streets of Tehran to sell,\u201d Shamoon says. \u201cWhen Iranian officials announce a number, you can double it because they\u2019re not telling the truth. They\u2019re trying to mask everything.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[Recently] a state-run media outlet blamed poverty for increasing child marriages. Zahra Nejad Bahram, a women\u2019s rights activist, told the outlet:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are witnessing the rise of child marriage in society. Some officials openly encourage child marriage. According to published statistics, the number of child marriages in 2020 and spring 2021 has increased sharply in different parts of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen there isn\u2019t a strong family, these people (children) are not being protected, and they are being abused in different ways,\u201d Shamoon says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mnnonline.org\/news\/children-in-crisis-troubling-new-trend-emerges-in-iran\/\">The full story<\/a> includes links to sources.
