Dear Readers,

Looking for a guest speaker for your mission event? In a recent edition of Missions Catalyst, contributor Shane Bennett sang the praises of our friend Jon Hardin, now a National Communications Specialist with Frontiers. But we wanted to let you know that Shane is one of our favorite public speakers, too. Like Jon, Shane is available to speak at churches, missions conferences, Perspectives classes, etc. Contact me for his bio.

Sincerely,

EVENT – October 3 Day of Prayer for Jatt Sikhs

Source: South Asia News – September 24, 2007

October 3 marks the third annual day of prayer and fasting for the Jatt (or Jat) Sikh people. For an hour-by-hour guide to praying, write to this address.

“The primary prayer need is for the Jatts to hear and respond to the Good News of Jesus,” says [strategy coordinator Irene] Wayne. “Along with this, a real need is prayer for faithful men and women who have come to the Lord to be bold in sharing their story with others, and for more house churches. Also for men of peace who will become the ones sharing and starting new house churches.”

  • To read more prayer requests for the Jatt Sikh people, please visit this page and scroll down to “Jat Sikhs of India.”

BOOK – Paul Hattaway’s ‘China’s Book of Martyrs’

Source: Joel News – September 6, 2007

China’s Book of Martyrs, by Paul Hattaway. Waynesboro, GA: Authentic Media, 2007 (release date: October 15, 2007).

In 1563 English author John Foxe published The Book of Martyrs, a detailed account of the persecution of early Christians and the later Protestant reformers. Foxe listed more than 200 martyrs by name and occupation and vividly describes how they suffered for Christ. With 2300 pages, it was the largest publishing project undertaken in England up to that time. Ten years later nearly every cathedral in England owned a copy of the book. In later years abridged editions, often also containing accounts of later persecutions, were produced.

Stories of people who sacrificially gave their lives for Christ and the Gospel still provide a powerfully inspiring message to the Church today. This is also the case with Paul Hattaway’s new publication China’s Book of Martyrs which tells the story of all who have been martyred in China for their faith in Christ. This book contains accounts of both the best and worst of human nature.

China’s Book of Martyrs is a large and comprehensive book. It carefully and masterfully details an anthology of China’s martyrs from the first recorded arrival of missionaries in AD 635. The author’s desire is that the book will glorify God, inspire those who read it, and challenge believers to a deeper and more radical walk with Jesus Christ.
